Aging Healthy 2

Aging healthy 2

This is continued from Aging Healthy.

Many people have followed the protocols in the Infinite Nourishing Moxibustion(무극보양뜸) for their maintenance or treatment of diseases.  They all agree that the protocols benefit their constitutions and replenish their energy.

Even in the classical books, acupuncture points, such as ST36, RN4, RN6 and RN12, are important points for good healing that cannot be left out in any clinic settings.  The protocols use representative points in limbs and torso.  There is ST36 in the legs, LI11 in the arms, and RN12 in the abdomen.

All these points help people eat well and digest well, thereby making enough source of energy and nutrition, not to mention treating the relevant channel problems.  We do not have to refer to classical books to substantiate it.  If we do not eat, we die, which is a simple fact.  In addition to the points, RN4 and RN6 will build resilience and resistance to diseases.

Whether you are sick or healthy, you may want to try at least ST36, RN4, RN6 and RN12.  If you are a practitioner, it will help you prevent diseases and stay healthy, thereby helping more people while living longer.  You may also want to recommend your patients so that they can become better sooner.  If you are a patient, you may want to ask your acupuncturist to mark the points for you.

Aging well takes only less than $15 per month!  Dr Kim (Gudang) is living proof that regular moxa care helps people age well.  No wonder he can still treat patients and travel around the world at his age of 103 now.  I started my morning with scarring moxa as usual!

Cases about sequelae of cancers and infertility

Case Studies

I finally finished translating the case studies about the sequelae of cancers and infertility which are contained in the book, 무극보양뜸(Infinite Nourishing Moxibustion), written by Dr Namsu Kim.  It has been years since I told myself that I would translate them into English.  There have been hectic years for me.

I hope the case studies will awaken practitioners to the importance and benefits of scarring moxibustion.  There are some reasons for his choices of certain acupoints when treating different conditions.  Some may have noticed them already.  There will be time that I will summarize them in the near future.

Finally, if you want to apply scarring moxa cones on patients, I strongly recommend that you try enough on yourself everyday until you feel comfortable with every process enough to demonstrate to your patients.  There should be clear understanding betwen both as well.

Any questions will be welcomed.  I am happy to share what I know about it.

Case study 4: Treatment of Infertility with Scarring Moxibustion

Case Study 4: Infertility

This is an exerpt from the book, 무극보양뜸 (Infinite Nourishing Moxibustion), written by Dr Namsu Kim.

The case is concerned about infertility due to damp phlegm.

The patient was a 36 year-old female who had been married for seven years.  She and her husband were not together during the weekdays due to their work locations, and they got together during the weekends.  She was under the birth control during their four years’ marriage.

They made efforts towards pregancy for three years, but in vain.  She complained of mild tenderness around the left side of the lower abdomen, and lower back pain.  She was slightly obese.  She presented with cold hands and feet (worse on the feet than the hands), and leucorrhea.  She had regular and scanty menstruation, and there was no particular premenstrual symptoms.  She had tight sensation in the chest, chronic fatigue, heaviness, and lethargy.  Her extremities tended toward swelling, which became worse during the period.  Her complexion was lacking in lust and looked slightly yellow.  Her tongue had thin greasy coating, and it was swollen with teeth marks on the sides.  Her tongue was deep slippery.

  • Acupuncture prescription:  basic acu protocol + SP6, SP9, BL32, BL20, BL18
  • Moxibustion prescription:  basic moxa protocol + ST26

She did not experience much difference during the first and second week, but she reported that she experienced improvement in chronic fatigue during the third week.  She felt alseep during the treatments, and she said that she felt refreshed after the treatments.  She reported improvement on the cold hands and feet during the fourth week.  She became pregnant with success after three months.

Case study 3: Treatment of Infertility with Scarring Moxibustion

Case study 3: Infertility

This is an exerpt from the book, 무극보양뜸 (Infinite Nourishing Moxibustion), written by Dr Namsu Kim.

The case is associated with infertility due to blood stasis.

The patient was a 38 year-old female who was married for five years.  She did not use any birth control, but she could not become pregnant for two years.  Her physical checkup found a fibroid which was removed with surgery.  She could not become pregnant for three years since then.  She presented with cold hands and feet, and irregular menstruation.  Her menstruation was usually delayed.  She experienced severe menstrual cramps during the period, and before and after menstruation, in addition to blood clots.  She also complained of dull pain and distending sensation under the belly, and numbness on the upper back and lower back.  Her tongue showed purple dots, and the pulse was thin choppy.

  • Acupuncture prescription: basic acu protocol + SP9, BL32, BL17, SP10
  • Moxibustion prescription: basic moxa protocol + RN14, ST27, SP6, BL18

She had received self moxa care at home since Sept 2008, and she also received treatments from her western medicine doctor.  She became pregnant with success in her second trial of the test tube.  She was in her week five pregnancy in April 2009.

Since blood stasis was attributable to lack of circulation, RN14, BL18, BL17 and SP10 were selected to generate and invigorate blood.

Case study 2: Treatment of Infertility with Scarring Moxibustion

Case Study 2: Infertility

This is an exerpt from the book, 무극보양뜸 (Infinite Nourishing Moxibustion), written by Dr Namsu Kim.

The case represents infertility due to Liver Qi stagnation.

The patient was 44 years old female.  She had undergone three miscarriages since 2002.  Since then, she was stressed out and high-strung.  She also presented with headache, numbness on the right leg and tight shoulder aggravated by stress, breast tenderness before menstruation, irregular menstruation, and painful menstruation alleviated by blood clots being passed out.  The tongue was pale red, and the pulse was rapid and wiry.

  • Acupuncture prescription:  basic acu protocol + SJ17, SP9, BL32
  • Moxibustion prescription:  basic moxa protocol + RN14, RN7, ST27, SP6, DU14, BL18

She received self moxa care at home for three months, and she was pregnant with success.

If you find the lower abdomen rising up, it may tell you that there is somthing wrong with the ovary.  If you apply moxa cones on ST26 and ST27, it would be like you are thawing the frozen ground in the winter with warm Spring sunshine, and creating an environment where seeds can grow up.

Any acupoints containg the letter, Heaven(天), are associated with heart.  The brain is located as high in our body as in the sky.  Since the brain is governed by heart, it would be as effective as treating the spirit if you treat the heart even without treating the brain.  BL10 is the passage way where the spirit and substance are running up and down.  What is running up is substance, and what is running down is spirit.

GB20 is where wind pathogens accumulate.   It can be needled with BL10 together to benefit the eyes, and it is a good point for those who use mental strength.  BL31 and BL32 are good for infertility, uterus disorders, women’s diseases, and genital illnesses.
