Case study 2: Treatment of Infertility with Scarring Moxibustion

Case Study 2: Infertility

This is an exerpt from the book, ????? (Infinite Nourishing Moxibustion), written by Dr Namsu Kim.

The case represents infertility due to Liver Qi stagnation.

The patient was 44 years old female.  She had undergone three miscarriages since 2002.  Since then, she was stressed out and high-strung.  She also presented with headache, numbness on the right leg and tight shoulder aggravated by stress, breast tenderness before menstruation, irregular menstruation, and painful menstruation alleviated by blood clots being passed out.  The tongue was pale red, and the pulse was rapid and wiry.

  • Acupuncture prescription:  basic acu protocol + SJ17, SP9, BL32
  • Moxibustion prescription:  basic moxa protocol + RN14, RN7, ST27, SP6, DU14, BL18

She received self moxa care at home for three months, and she was pregnant with success.

If you find the lower abdomen rising up, it may tell you that there is somthing wrong with the ovary.  If you apply moxa cones on ST26 and ST27, it would be like you are thawing the frozen ground in the winter with warm Spring sunshine, and creating an environment where seeds can grow up.

Any acupoints containg the letter, Heaven(?), are associated with heart.  The brain is located as high in our body as in the sky.  Since the brain is governed by heart, it would be as effective as treating the spirit if you treat the heart even without treating the brain.  BL10 is the passage way where the spirit and substance are running up and down.  What is running up is substance, and what is running down is spirit.

GB20 is where wind pathogens accumulate.   It can be needled with BL10 together to benefit the eyes, and it is a good point for those who use mental strength.  BL31 and BL32 are good for infertility, uterus disorders, women’s diseases, and genital illnesses.
